Teenage Kicks..
My husband phoned me yesterday from work in tears, the news had come through that a colleague's two sons had been involved in a car accident & things weren't looking good. I wont go into the details but it got me thinking about something that I read a few years ago that has always stuck in my mind,
'The single biggest statistical killer of teenage girls in this country is their boyfriends (bad) driving........'
Our daughter turned 12 a few weeks ago & for now boys are the last thing on her mind (having 2 younger, annoying brothers has done the trick!), we dread to think of what scrawny, spotty, greasy haired boy she's going to bring home one day & as each birthday goes by, that day gets closer!
The boyfriend that I dread is the one who can drive, the one who thinks it'll be great fun to drive around like he's playing Grand Theft Auto on his Xbox, with our precious daughter in the car with him.
A Twitter friend today tweeted that 'Cars are lethal weapons in the wrong hands'.

I'm 24 and my parents have never forgotten that statistic. It's frighteningly true. As the daughter you think it's annoying when your mum and dad want a journey itinerary and text message on arrival...that is until you become the parent. I have a son but things take a differenet perspective when your the one in charge. All I will say is instill in to your daughter the importance of seat belts, a text on arrival (no matter how much she complains) and get her used to the fact that you may even have text her several times before she arrives at her destination to ensure she is safe...my mum did and as annoying at it was I now know it's because she loves me.

Thank you for your comment. It never ceases to fill me with dread, up & down the UK there are kids driving around at great speed in a machine that is capable of killing with out a care in the world, thinking it wont be them.
